Aknystėlis

A 29- ha Aknystėlis lake situated by the village by the same is about 10 km to the west of Utena. The lake is of glacial trough origin. Its length is about 1.5 km, and the average width 0.2 km, the coastline is 3.4 km. long. The rivulet Aknysta (a left inflow of the river Šventoji). The lake is fed by 3.3 km² basin, the level of water during the year fluctuates on average 50 cm. The name is related with a Latvian word aka, which means „a well“.

On the banks of Aknystėlis the villages of Stabulankiai and Aknystėliai are situated.

In around 1945-1947 lake was so full with ruff that they baited at once as soon as a hook with an earthworm reached the bottom. Nowadays they are nearly extinct.

Local fishermen have stocked Aknystėlis with breams which adapted here well. One can catch breams weighing about 2 kg. Lake was also stocked with eels and zander trout. Unsuccessfully with trout since nobody catches them.
