Alsuodis

A lake of 33.5 ha in size, situated in the southernmost wooded corner in the district between Molėtai and Ignalina districts, about 3 km north-east of Labanoras. The length 1.4 km, average width 0.24 km, coastline 3.6 km. The rivulet Alsuodė flows out of it (an inflow of lake Aisetas), belongs to Žeimena basin.

With the last melting ice all lake carp fish start feeding more actively as well as bite. Where there are a lot of roach and they are big, one can enjoy several-week-long unforgettable fishing. The real spring roach fishing in Alsuodis starts at the beginning of March and continues until ice completely melts. The best bite is when the reeds thaw and become impassable. They can be approached only at arm’s length. The most favorable days are when days are clear and it freezes at night.

If the weather is really clear and sunny, roach will bite only early in the morning and in the evening. Sometimes evening biting lasts longer, till darkness. Biting is negatively affected by rain, sleet, freezing rain, strong wind, a changed direction of wind. On a cloudy day roach can bite all day long with short pauses. At any time in the morning look for roach in the reeds, but as soon as the sun rises, biting stops. It is time to move to the middle of the bay or even deeper. Big roach like semi-darkness, where the bottom is not lit by the sun and they feel safer.

Keep fishing silently and don‘t make any new ice holes if there is no necessity. If, however, you need to make new ice holes, drill three four of them at once. After several minutes scared roach will come back again. If possible, cover the ice hole with your own shadow or with pieces of ice.  Roach constantly swim on the edge of the reeds, but not all of them bite. Water in Alsuodis is so clear that roach spot the bait from a distance of several meters.   Roach still don‘t bite? Alsuodis is rich not only in them. Try to lure several basses. They are nearby, in the same reeds. Both basses and roach notice mosquito larvae being poured into an ice hole very soon.
