Klykiai hillfort

Klykiai hillfort is in the territory of Utena district municipality, 5 km north-west of Tauragnai, 1km north of lake and village Klykiai, 630m north-east of the highway Utena–Tauragnai–Kirdeikiai, in the promontory of Klykiai mountain, 235m above sea level.

Klykiai mountain is a moraine hill in the Aukštaičiai Highland. The height 237m. The hill was formed during the last glacial period from loam, pebbles and boulders, is overgrown with deciduous trees. From the north and east the hillfort is surrounded by the valley of a nameless rivulet, on other sides it is separated from other hills by ravines. The slopes are steep, about 10m high. The upper part of the eastern and northern slopes is steep, 5–6m high, below there is a 4m wide terrace. The site 42m long, 46m wide. The hillfort dates back to the I millennium. At the southern foot of the hillfort there is an ancient settlement with a cultural layer up to 90cm thick.
