Nemeikščiai hillfort

Nemeikščiai hillfort is in the territory of Utena district municipality, Utena neighborhood, south of Nemeikščiai. Accessible from the highway Utena–Kaltanėnai–Švenčionys, past Nemeikščiai, cross the railway, then straight on 700m, turn right southward in the junction, after 500m on the right in the west crossing over Krašuona.

The hillfort was built on a separate hill, on the left bank of the Krašuona river. The site 43x26m. The slopes are medium steep, 15m high.

The hillfort is severely damaged by ploughing, lies waste, the northern slope is overgrown with deciduous trees and bushes.  

The hillfort dates back to the I millennium BC – the beginning of the I millennium AD. As the legend goes, Nemeikščiai hillfort was poured by Napoleon’s soldiers using their casques.
