Šavašas

An 8- ha lake on the junction of Utena and Zarasai districts, near Utena-Zarasai road, about 3 km north-east of Daugailiai. The length 0.54 km, average width 0.15 km, coastline 1.4 km, the greatest depth 9.5 m, the volume of water 0.22 m. m³. The area of the basin 31.3 km². The lake is flown through by Šavaša, a left inflow of Šventoji. The name most probably is assimilative with Savašas, and the root sav- is very archaic and could have meant moisture and flowing. In Šavašas fishermen catch pikes, basses, roach, rudds, carps, tench. The lake connects with the little Šavašas.

Another Šavašas lake is in Utena district, 2.5 km north-east of Daugailiai, north-west of the road A6 Kaunas–Zarasai–Daugpilis. The length from the north-west to the south-east 0.27 km, the width up to 0.09 km. The northern and southern banks are high, overgrown with trees and bushes. The lake is overgrown with water vegetation. It is surrounded by arable fields and meadows.  From the south-east to the north-west the lake is flown-through by a rivulet Šavaša which is an inflow of Šventoji (from a nearby another Šavašas lake). There is the village of Mikolojūnai and the homestead of Šavašai. The northern bank borders with Zarasai district. The depth is only 2.5 m. Fish: tench, roach, ide, carps, rudds. In winter big basses can be caught in shallows from ice.
