Vaikutėnai hillfort

Vaikutėnai hillfort with a settlement is in the territory of Utena district municipality, Vaikutėnai, Utena neighborhood. Accessible from the highway Utena – Zarasai, turning left northward after Vaikutėnai, going on 250m, turning left in the west.  

The hillfort was built on the highest part of a separate prolonged hill. 3m below the site there are traces of a rampart. The site 22x10m. On the north-eastern slope, 2m below the site there is a terrace 5m wide, 2m below which there is a second terrace 6m wide. The slopes are steep, 16-17m high.

The hillfort is severely damaged by ploughing, the southern slope has been dug off for gravel. The site and the eastern slope lie waste; the other slopes are overgrown with mixed forest.   The hillfort dates back to the beginning of the I millennium AD.  The area of the monument territory 3ha.
