Žiezdrelis

Žiezdrelis is a lake in the south-east of the territory of Utena district municipality, next to the territory of Ignalina district municipality, about 3 km south-east of Saldutiškis. The area of the lake 51.5 ha, length (from the south-west to the north-east) 2.4 km, the greatest width 0.34 km. The surface altitude 149.2 m. The greatest depth 13.5 m, average depth 5.4 m. The lake is of glacial trough origin (occupies part of the trough). The area of the basin 5.2 km2; the coastline is winding, its length 5.2 km. The banks are high, steep in some parts. On the south-western part it is surrounded by forest. A channel links Žiezdrelis with Šventas lake; 2 rivulets flow out; Žiezdrelis belongs to Žeimena basin. The flowage 54 %. The sandbank is narrow, sandy, deeper on the bottom there is slime.

Local fishermen’s catch in Žiezdrelis are basses, pikes, roach and tench.

The villages near the lake: Žiezdrelė, Subiškis, Sėliškės, Vidiškis. Along the north-eastern bank there goes the railway Švenčionėliai – Utena. The name of lake comes from the word žiezdras, meaning „gravel, grit, rough sand“.
